Mountain hiking with children

Good preparation is important. Drink plenty of fluids and take a few breaks and your mountain hike with children will be an absolute pleasure.

How do you hike with children?
Can I go with my ten-year-old and his seven-year-old sister?
Already heading for the summit?
Yes, you can. But there are a few things you should be aware of.
Our surrounding peaks, the mountain world around Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, the Ötztal Alps, the Kaunergrat and the Samnaun group have always attracted summiteers from all over the world to Tyrol.
This mountain range is one of the most impressive in the Alps. There are countless mountain hikes here,
rustic huts, beautiful Alpine pastures, hundreds of exciting stories and places to discover.

Holidays in Tyrol's mountains

So it's not surprising that some guests feel the urge to climb the next 3,000 metre peak as soon as they arrive. From our hotel rooms at the Laurentius family hotel, the peaks are just within reach. This feeling of wanting to get out and up is right and important, it's the feeling of incredible freedom and the desire to discover. But if you set off on a mountain hike with your children,
you should follow a few tips.

Hiking with children: Preparation

Catering, equipment, motivation, hiking destination, safety and local knowledge - these are the most important cornerstones of a great, successful and unforgettable hike with children. Those who prepare well will have the best experiences. Let's start from the beginning. If you want to reach the summit, you need the right food and drink.
Drinking enough is particularly important. Hiking is not just about burning calories,
sweating also causes a lot of fluid loss.

Drink a lot and take breaks

In addition to sufficient fluids and the right food, the right equipment is also important.
You shouldn't set off on a mountain tour in normal trainers or even flip-flops.
Proper hiking boots are as much a part of a hike as the fresh mountain air and
the feeling of freedom.

A tour also needs the right motivation, but please, please don't overdo it. Children need regular breaks. Pay attention to your children's needs,
which can vary according to age.
Sometimes it can be helpful to take the lift up a few hundred metres in altitude.
A little help doesn't detract from your happiness on the summit.

With the family to the hut

The hiking destination is also important. Huts are the ideal destination for a mountain hike with children.
Once you reach the top, you can rest and recharge your batteries.
Our hut keepers know many exciting stories about the region. This delights young and old alike.
If you are travelling with children, you should definitely take the time to pay attention to nature,
She is the best teacher you can imagine. In addition to huts, lakes are also ideal destinations for hiking with children.

Family hike with a mountain guide

No matter how well developed a mountain is, it is always unpredictable to some extent. Safety is therefore always the top priority when hiking in the mountains with children. Don't overdo it and don't take any unnecessary risks.
The majority of our slopes are inclined towards the east - ideal for sunshine hikes. But the sun can also be strong on the mountain. So please don't overdo it.

If you want to be on the safe side, you can also book a mountain guide. Our mountain guides know the region like the back of their hand and will take you safely to the summit.
Parents who really want to go mountaineering and climbing in high alpine terrain, in places that are simply too challenging for children, are very welcome to do so. Your children can spend a few hours without parents in our children's club. This keeps the children happy and occupied and parents close to the summit.
